A few months ago I had an idea for a blog topic, but I had to sit on it for a while as it was just a little while after my “12 Facebook Status Types” post, I didn’t want to become recognised for only doing posts on roughly the same topic. However, I have waited long enough and I get annoyed about these things enough that I think it’s time.

I do use Facebook, I’m not some sort of vigilante who’s boycotting it, I will admit that it’s a very useful way to keep in touch with friends if you don’t see them all the time. But there is just so much stuff about it that just annoys the hell out of me. I actually devoted a chapter of my dissertation to photo sharing on Facebook. It annoys me, but I am kind of fascinated by how this social networking site has become so embedded in our day to day lives.

I digress, what it is that really pisses me off is the people on Facebook. A stupid statement to make I know, facebook exists because of the people on it. But more and more often I find myself becoming infuriated by the things that people do via comments, posts and requests. This led me to thinking about how this transfers to real life situation and how very rude their actions would be (I cannot abide bad manners, I’m a complete ass for it). So read, and feel embarrassed when you realise that you have more than likely done these things yourself at some point in time.

I should add, if any of my friends read this, and you have committed one of these heinous crimes at some point, I’m not mad at YOU, just your actions. Also, stop doing it.

Commenting on Wall Posts.

This one makes me so so mad every time it happens, which is quite often. If I want to share something with everyone, I will do a status. If I want to share something with just one person, I will write on their wall. Makes sense right? So it really annoys me if I post something on a friends wall, then another mutual friend comments first. More so annoying is when this happens to me. There have been plenty of times when a friend will post something on my wall, generally a video or a picture, for me to see. Then other friends comment before I have even seen whatever it is. IT’SREALLYFUCKINGANNOYING!!!!!!!!
There are generally two ways in which this happens;
Instance 1- Friend 1 posted a music video on my wall for a band I hadn’t listened to yet. Friend 2 then comments talking about how much they love it and start talking about another song, which I have also not heard. Friends 1 and 2 then continue to discuss said band, leaving me no place to input my thoughts on it. Pretty much all I can say at this point it “yeah, that’s super rad” or words to the effect.
Real life equivalent: In a group setting Friend 1 says “Oh have you seen that new music video by *suitably obscure but cool band* yet? I think you’ll love it”. Friend 2 suddenly sweeps in seemingly from nowhere, hellbent on dominating the conversation: “Oh my god I LOVE that song!!!! Have you heard this one, and this one, oh and this one….” I am left teetering on the edge of the discussion, unable to leave at risk of seeming rude, but unable to chip in without seeming like an idiot.

Instance 2- So as not to discriminate against Friend 2, I’ll introduce Friends 3 and 4. Friend 3 posts a video on my wall. Friend 4 comments before I get the chance merely to say that they saw it the other day and speculating how I would react in such a situation. Okay. Why was this such a pressing issue that you needed to comment before I got the chance. As it is I didn’t comment at all. Now NO-ONE will know what I would do.
Real life equivalent: Friend 3 shows me a picture, Friend 4, without a moments hesitation shouts “I’ve already seen this!! I wonder what Caryan thinks?!!!” Well I am standing right there and my attention has been drawn to the object in question, why don’t you wait quietly and see rather than jumping straight in? Though as a side note, I should add due to my online response in the hypothetical real life situation I was just as rude- storming off without comment.

Unwanted Friend Requests

I am not very popular in terms of Facebook. Mainly because I’m ruthless with my friends list. If I haven’t spoke to you in a few months and don’t plan to do so in the near future, I will delete you. There are actually quite a few people I have added that I would delete if not for the fear of running into them and being forced into awkward conversation. I just don’t see the point in having all these “friends” when you barely, if ever talk to them. Obviously other people don’t see things that way. The two situations that spring to mind both involve ex boyfriends of a friend. One of which I met about three times, the other only once and these meetings both took place years ago, before Facebook was even popular (or even invented if I recall correctly). Anyway, both of these people have tried to add me as a “friend” on Facebook. I had no interest in talking to them in the past let alone now after years of never seeing them (hardly a loss) but nonetheless they wanted to be “friends”. One of which persevered about three or four times after being rejected.
Real life equivalent: You meet someone through a friend and talk very little. On seeing them again you politely acknowledge them but volunteer no further participation. Five years later you see this person on the street. They march directly up to you and with no other conversation say “Do you want to be friends?”. You politely decline and go on your way. About a week later they see you again and once again come out with a direct “Do you want to be friends?”, to the same response. The person is undeterred and makes more attempts with the same relentless approach. Online it’s acceptable, in reality it would be fucking creepy.

Commenting on Tagged Posts

This is similar to commenting on wall posts but still annoying. We all know the fun of being tagged in statuses of friends. It makes you feel super cool and included and also belittles anyone who wasn’t involved, making them feel bad that they weren’t invited to whatever event occurred. I know it’s kind of dickish, and it does make you feel bad if many of your friends are tagged in a posts and you aren’t included, even if you did decline to attend. But when you have the glory of a friend having so much fun with you that they want to share it with all their other Facebook friends, it’s really annoying when someone not included, or even not known to you comments. This is generally someone the friend knows from work or uni but you’ve never met them. What follows is a big ‘ol discussion between your friend and their friend which slowly meanders off topic but you still get notified for. Repeatedly.
Real life equivalent: So we’re at a hypothetical party now. Friend 1 is standing with you and Friends 2-6, you all went for a Picnic earlier on in the day (a little sad, but really this is the sort of junk that I do).
Friend 1: So I had a really awesome time at the park with you guys today, we should totally do it again some time
Friend 1’s Friend: Oh you went to a park? I love parks I used to take my dog to one all the time.
Friend 1. Oh how sweet, what kind of dog do you have?
Friend 1’s Friend: He was a Brussels Griffon* but he died from AIDS, the little scamp.
Friend 1: Oh no, that adorable pigeon we nursed at uni had AIDS to so I feel your pain.

This conversation continues to meander through topics that you don’t care about and hilarious anecdotes that you don’t understand. It’s the best.

Spamming your Newsfeed with YouTube Videos

Man this irritates me. There are some people I know that insist on putting links to YouTube videos on their status updates so that EVERYONE has to know they like this song. the irritating part is, they’re not even new songs. Someone went through a phase a while ago of posting links to songs by The Beatles. All the fucking time. Everyone knows The Beatles, we know they’re good. You don’t have to shove it in my face.
Real life equivalent: Sitting on the mode of public transport of your choice with someone that you know sitting next to you. Every five minutes or so they turn to you and say “You know *song name and band that EVERYONE knows*? That’s a GREAT song. I’m going to listen to it right now”. They then proceed to listen to the song, nice and quietly. Then alert you, and every other person on the transportation device, of what song they’re going to listen to next.

See it’s times like this that I’m glad many of my friends don’t take an interest in my posts. If anyone has read this, if you’re liked enough to be a Facebook friend of mine don’t be offended. I do like you, just not your Facebook manners.

*This is a real dog! Look it up, They kind of look like the Lorax.

So I was sitting on the bus today and I had an idea for a blog, it was all formed and perfect and beautiful, but then I forgot it. Between having the idea and not having the idea I ate a muffin, so there’s a good chance that my need for chocolatey deliciousness cancelled out what could have been a super wonderful and awesome blog. Sorry about that. I guess you’re just going to have to put up with a regular one.

I think there’s a ghost or something similar in my room. There. I said it. I mention on things like Podcasts and in some videos how scared I am of everything (maybe one day I’ll make a list of things that scare me, but not today), Ghosts are included in this category. I’m living “at home” at the minute (you’d think that any house could be classed as “living at home” but I mean in the standard sense of living with family) and the house is an old miners house. This is reason one for the possibility of ghosts, old houses seem to be more inclined to get ghosts. Reason two- my bedroom is the coldest room in the entire house. It’s more than likely just because it has a flat roof etc and because of my stupid old window but it could be sue to the paranormal. Reason three I walked in my room this morning and got a whiff of cigarette smoke only no-one in the house smokes this leads me to believe said ghosts was maybe a smoker. My powers of deduction are insane, I know. Finally, reason five- my clocks are mental. I used to have a plug in digital clock. It had a radio for the alarm, it was pretty old school awesome. Anyway, I would set the time and without fail the clock would wind up being too fast. It wouldn’t be straight away, but over the course of a few weeks it would gradually get out of sync with the other clocks until it would wind up being a good half an hour fast. Then for Christmas I got another digital clock, but this time a battery one (I did get other gifts also, I didn’t only get a clock). It was fine for a while then the other day I realised it’s seven minutes slow. I just don’t understand it. The only conclusion I can draw from these occurrences is that there is a ghost, in my room. This displeases me.

Although, I guess I’m obliged to share that I have a stupidly overactive imagination and a tendency to convince myself of things when there is no relevant evidence to support my theories. For example. When I was a lot younger I read a book that my sister owned called “True Horror Stories”. It was meant for kids but it was fucking scary regardless. It featured the story of 112 Ocean Avenue, which is the house that the Amityville Horror (the book, before the movies) was said to be about. I’ll not go into details (mainly because I’m too scared to read the story on the Wikipedia page) but one of the things that happened in the house was that one of the windows in the house always had flies buzzing around it or something like that. To this day if there’s a place with lots of flies, or dead flies, I get genuinely scared of things. A similar thing was when someone was telling me about The Exorcist, they said before sicky face got possessed there were noises in the attic and her mother said it was nothing (I’m unsure of how true this is, I haven’t seen the movies, and I was way young at this point so whoever was telling me might not have seen it either) because of this any time I heard noises above my room I used to be scared it was the Devil. I have a flat roof above my room, there’s no loft/attic, any noises I’ll have heard will have almost certainly been Seagulls.

I’m just terrible. I can over analyse the slightest noise until I’ve convinced myself of the least likely explanation for it. When Ben and I lived in Sunderland for a year I convinced myself that the flat was haunted. There was literally no reasoning at all behind this theory but I was terrified of that flat the whole time I lived there. If I had days I wasn’t at uni (or days I skipped uni) I would practically bully Ben into skipping College and playing XBox 360 so I wouldn’t get eaten by ghosts (like Pacman). Ironically though the game I played most that year was Left 4 Dead 2. Nothing like getting rid of ghost fears by being confronted by Zombies.

For the record, I am also afraid of Zombies.

These two words have been all over the Internet lately, and they could mean an end to the web as we know it. SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) are two bills which aim to provide tolls for law enforcement and copyright holders to protect their intellectual property rights. Well that’s what it says on paper anyways. In reality the two bills will cause an enormous amount of collateral damage to the Internet, and have a high potential for abuse, and above all it wont even be effective in stopping the crimes it targets.

The targets are the entertainment pirates out there, but that’s not the people who will be effected the most. Any material or websites that appear to break copyright in any form could be blocked from the USA or even be shut down entirely.

But Ben your British, not American silly? That’s right but websites that we all use on a daily basis, Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia will all be affected by these laws and most of all smaller websites like Have A Cookie could become blocked in the USA thus loosing over two thirds of you loyal fans!

SOPA and PIPA are very similar bills, one from the House of Representatives and one from the Senate. Both are well on their way to becoming laws after a vote in the chamber of congress. This must not happen, we must do something now before it becomes too late and the Internet as we know it is lost. SOPA and PIPA are only the beginning, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world follows in Americas footsteps…

This post is to be read in a sad voice, with the image of a distraught me in your head. Think orphaned baby unicorn that’s the last of its kind only it has no limbs and it’s horn’s hanging off and it has horrific oozing sores all over its body. THAT kind of sad.

Right, here’s the thing. I need people to follow me on Twitter. NEED. I only have 19 followers on Twitter. I know 16 of these people. And not in a super rad way like, oh I met this person in a thrift shop in NY and we meet for Oreo milkshakes every 29th February. I either know them from school or I have worked with them. If my calculations are correct (which they probably aren’t) only 15% of my followers are users that I don’t actually know. Which would be fair enough if that percentage didn’t add up to a total of 3 people/bots. How fucking sad. Ben has around 75 times more followers than me. IT’S NOT FAIR. I’m not trying to be needy or anything but over 26,000 people have subscribed to the Youtube page, people read the posts on the site and listen to the podcasts. Why doesn’t anyone want to follow me (or the rest of the team, I guess). I am full of quality nuggets of mediocre humour. Who DOESN’T want that in their life. REALLY? Plus I like to type things in caps lock a lot, that’s always exciting. Also because I live such a super dull life I’m more than likely to reply to things. Really…

COMMIT

www.twitter.com/caryanosaurus

And I GUESS these guys too…

www.twitter.com/cocanuta
www.twitter.com/davidengles

Now that I’m done with my grovelling I will go on to general events. Of course as I wrote that sentence I didn’t consider just how little interesting things happen in my life. So anyone I may have lured in to follow me (do it!) is now more than likely going to realise “Oh yeah, this broad’s SUPER dull”. MINT.

I was reminded this week of how bad I am at time management. A couple of weeks ago I decided, on a whim, that this is going to be the year I learn to drive. I booked myself in for a theory test at the end of January using the logic that if I have a deadline I’ll actually get round to learning stuff. Also this month I have my dissertation deadline. It’s not technically a dissertation as it’s “not enough words” to count, but it sounds more stressful that “Research Project”. Anyway, the name of it isn’t important, the point is that I have to do around 9000 words or so by the 23rd January. So yes, driving test, research submission. So, me being the genius that I am thought “Oh I have a week off work in January, I’ll spend this time applying myself and completing my important work and studying for my driving test”. That was a lie. I instead thought, I’ll use this time to visit a friend at uni and do fuck all for 3 days. I am a sensible adult.
More interesting stuff. This morning I put together a couple of rough ideas for merchandise. Yaaaaaay. I genuinely am excited about this. David and myself has been very disappointed by the fact that neither of us have been recognised on the street by avid HAC fans. My logic is that there’s only been one video showing us as actual people so far and I’m such a stone cold fox in real life (hurrr) people are too intimidated to come and talk to me. However if people have the option to wear their support on their chests then I’m sure EVERYONE will be doing it. Or that’s the plan. The day that I see someone walking around wearing a HAC product (and this person isn’t Ben or David) I swear I will march right up to that person and warmly thank them for their patronage. Of course in real life I’m a kind of nervous and awkward so it probably wouldn’t be quite so epic as that but I will make some sort of effort to talk to them.

Other potential thankful gesture theories have included;
- Buying this person some sort of giant cookie.
- Making a giant cookie (I realised how expense those big cookies are and how unlikely it is that I would be able to buy one and not eat it.)
- Taking a photo of this person and featuring them in a special comic. I was thinking something like them high-fiving a bear. Maybe they could also be riding some sort of awesome creature. Like a Narwhal
- Creating a one off t-shirt as a special thank you.

I know it seems all very needy but we’re all still amazed by the scale of just how many people have supported us. I realize in the grand scheme of things 26,000 subscribers is NOT that big a deal, but for us that’s almost the entire population of the town we all live in (aside from David for about 75% of the year).

So keep being dedicated bitches.

I am beginning to suck at posts. I sort of feel like that relation that you don’t really know well enough to miss but they turn up for family events nonetheless. Only my family events are movie releases. Or some sort of significant date in the calendar. I swear it’s not on purpose though. I don’t want to grovel and make excuses (this isn’t university after all) but, as Ben said, we all have commitments. But I do get frustrated when I can’t do comic stuff. I have so many ideas but no time to do them. or I didn’t anyway. I do now. I swear I’ll be a better HAC-ian. Seen as I haven’t done any posts in a considerable amount of time consider this a recap of all the things I’ve missed, events, reviews and future stuff. Future for HAC- not just the general future.

Well as Ben mentioned in his Christmas post we recently hit 25,000 subs on Youtube. That’s pretty fucking amazing. I’d like to pretend to be all cool and calm about it but I check the Youtube page every day. I’m not going to lie. I don’t claim to take any credit by any means, Ben and David do much more work than I do on videos (again, I swear I’ll get better). Nonetheless I am VERY proud of how this little notion developed at my dining room table over 3 years ago had developed. It’s so so flattering to know that that many people enjoy our videos.

Well we had out HAC Christmas party a couple of weeks ago. Of course there’s only 3 of us so it was essentially a normal night out but with a selection of toasts. Of course when I say “toasts” I mean shouting “21,000!!!!!” and raising cheap shots. I have a treat however. Anyone who listens to the Podcasts will have most likely heard us mention “Bubbles”. For those who don’t it’s a pretty rank little “Cellar Bar” in the town we all live in (although David’s mostly away for uni), it’s disgusting but it’s one of the only acceptable places to go of a night time. I have photos though, commemorating the event and not a photocopied ass in sight.

The notorious yellow walls. The entire bar is covered in this hideous yellow swirliness for gawd knows what reason.

It started off so civilised. Or as civilised as bright blue liquid can be…

The toast wasn’t only to our success so far but also to the many many people who’ve been kind enough to “like”, subscribe, follow and comment.

After a few drinks David felt brave enough to ask if he could touch my septum ring. He got a little weirded out.

Ben goes for a traditional Facebook style pose.

Yep…

I should also add that this was actually the first time Ben and I had seen David since we officially invited him to join us a few months ago.

Right=Reverse, Left=….Let’s go. Obviously.

Yeah someday people are going to come to Bubbles to have their photos taken in front of that sign. It’ll be like an Abbey Road type thing.

This concludes the photo essay section of the post.

Another thing that occurred since my last installment was seeing 50/50. It was actually released on my Birthday (the lack of gifts and well wishes from fans did NOT go un-noticed by the way) so Ben and I went to see it then. Turns out it’s NOT a movie for birthdays, I did not anticipate so much crying… There’s a reason why I didn’t write a full review though- there was very little to say about it. Without sounding too gushy, it was damn near perfect- the best movie I’ve seen in a LONG time. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some good films this year but none that i could pick so little faults with. My qualms weren’t with the movie itself but with the packaging. It was sold as a comedy with a very heavy bromance theme. There actually wasn’t that many comedy moments but the parts that were there were laugh out loud hilarious. There also wasn’t that much Seth Rogen screen time, but it worked out okay because Joseph Gordon Levitt was just so strong as the lead role. I’d highly recommend it to anyone, along with a recommendation to acquire some tissues beforehand.

Christmas!! This also happened recently. I’ll not go on about it, I really just want to gloat about my beautiful presents. In particular a Tank plushie from L4D, an L4D medikit hoodie an awesome WoW tee and my beautiful new Lomography camera. It was a VERY nice selection of gifts.

Finally, hopes and dreams. Not really, not at all. But we have plans for HAC. I am seriously so filled with ambition for all the things I want to do. I’m naturally a very negative person, so for me to be filled with such hope for stuff is just bizarre. So things. Well we (me and Ben) have plans to do some Left 4 Dead videos soon which will be the first co-op videos from my point of view. I’m a big Left 4 Dead fan so it seems only right. I am not, however, massively good so it should still be entertaining. This is of course along with the other videos that were already going such as the Saints Row the Third and GTA4 videos. We’re also planning to finally branch out in merchandise- something we’ve been wanting to tackle for what feels like ages. Expect to be buying beautiful HAC things very soon. Also, I can pretty much promise that if I see someone where a HAC shirt in the street I’ll more than likely shake their hand which is an honour right? Finally, more podcasts (server issues etc meant our last few couldn’t go up) and hopefully some actual comics.

For all of the above though, participation is genuinely appreciated. For example if there’s any games you want to see any of us at HAC do videos of let us know and we’ll try to work it out. Same goes for t-shirts- if you have a quote or phrase from a video or podcast that you would proudly wear on your chest then LET US KNOW. There’s a good chance that it could be used as a design. now that’d be pretty fucking cool right?

That is all.

That’s right Christmas has been and gone, the time for giving and receiving is over. Now is the time to get ready for 2012. It’s been quite a while since any posts on here, (and if you think that we’ve been being lazy, try checking out our YouTube page… With Christmas drawing to a close i thought it was about time I wrote another blog entry for the site. Nothing fancy, just re-capping the past few months and what to expect in the months to come.

Well first of all, we hit TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND subscribers on YouTube, which is absolutely insane, but if i could thank each and every one of the subscribers I defiantly would. This boost in subs over the past 3 months has given myself Caryan and David the push to provide the best content we can. We released our 200th video on Christmas day which was pretty awesome. It’s also your first chance to see the voices behind the commentaries. (though there will be more chances once Caryan makes her blog post about our festive celebrations).

Now for the next few months you ask? Well on top of aiming to double our current subscribers, we plan to run weekly competitions once more, begin selling merchandise, and expanding into news and reviews as well as our general commentaries. Competitions you say? Merchandise you say? That’s right, expect to see lots more content popping up from us in the coming months. Of course this will only be possible free time permitting as out of our small team of 3, David is a student with constant assignments, Caryan is a final year student who also works, and I work “full time”. So we have to fit Have A Cookie around our normal lives, which can be tough some times, but we do it none the less.

The first competition will be launched around the second week of January I think (it’s really up to me when it goes up) so keep your eyes pealed for that.

I think that’s about it from me today, but i’ll most likely be back with more ramblings really soon. Until then, extend your Christmas cheer with this video!

Breaking Dawn. Where to start…

Well to begin, anyone who has listened to the Podcast or read previous posts will know that I’m a Twilight fan. I like to think I’m above all these fanatics with the t-shirts, messenger bags and bedspreads. However what I lack in material products I more than make up in knowledge and, as shameful as it is to say, dedication. Though I feel it’s important to say that I will admit that the movies are a little shaky and the books are only held up by the strong storyline, anything less and I would have been put off by the irritating protagonist and the amateur style of writing.

I was excited for the first installment of the final movies. Until I started listening to other people. This morning (I only saw the film this evening) I watched the segment about the movie on Film 2011 with Claudia Winkleman. I was led to believe, from the comments of Winkleman and her co-host Danny Leigh, that this movie was somewhat tongue in cheek, with the director Bill Condon taking a sort of superior stance as though he was too good for such frivolities as a multi-million dollar franchise. What both presenters agreed on was that Condon should have done better for the fans at the very least, that he was letting them down with this adaptation.

So now for my thoughts on the movie, and there are a lot of thoughts manifesting. I was actually sitting by the light of the credits scrawling notes in a notebook looking like a frantic fan making a diary entry about how much Edward/Jacob speaks to my soul. I wasn’t, by the way.

My first issue came within minutes of the movie starting with Edwards confession on the eve of the wedding of his sordid past, killing murders and rapists on the basis that he couldn’t marry Bella when she didn’t know everything about him. So there was a 2 minute or so flashback of Edward at some point in the past (I’m not going to estimate when). Although readers of the books knew about this already it wasn’t important that it was missed out of the movies, at all. What would have made considerably more sense was to have Bella’s dream about Immortal Children, a theme which becomes significantly more important as the story goes on. I personally am at a loss as to why this wasn’t the case, it couldn’t possibly be for the worry of ruining the baby plot too early on in the movie, because the trailers already did that months ago.

I must credit the wedding scenes though. I’ll admit that I’m an absolute mess when it comes to anything to do with weddings. I tear up faster than if someone had punched me in the boob as soon as I see veils and hear vows. It wasn’t true to the book but the portrayed event was so much more beautiful than what I had imagined. Plus the acting was almost, you know, good.

Then came the sex scenes. I think like any Twilight fan I was eager to see how this would play out, especially when Kristen Stewart has been known to be a little unreliable in the past for accurately portraying emotion to say the very least (though I will go back to that). There had been rumours flying around for ages about there being lots of vampire sex, and that the scenes had to be edited as originally they’d been rated as “R” in America. With a lot of the raunch edited and sent to recycle bin I was anticipating just some symbolic close up of hands being held and maybe (if they wanted to be REALLY naughty) some hands gripping the sheets. But, to my surprise there was actual thrusting. It was tastefully done, no doubt but there was this lingering thought in the back of my mind of “hang on, these are supposed to be an actual couple, this is a little creepy…”. It was sweet enough though, first time and all that. of course they weren’t going to show the awkward, embarrassed reality, this is Hollywood after all.

Something that bothered me a little was that at times the movie seemed to speed by, cutting out little details that could have made so much of a difference but lingering on pointless parts or altogether made up scenes. For example the scene where Edwards essentially watching Bella as she gets ready to go in the bath, yes we know she’s skinny (some pretty impressive make up and CGI there) but it seemed a little too perverse for my liking.

One of the real disappointments in this movie was the acting. For once in the saga it seemed like the vast majority of the actors were actually doing their job pretty well. The supporting cast have always been good, both Cullens and Bellas family (special credit to Charlie and Emmett) but this time we saw some pretty good acting from Kristen Stewart. After years of being a little confused about the fuss I’m finally beginning to understand some of the appeal. Taylor Lautner was equally as surprising, going from a little haughty, kind of funny to actually showing emotion. However because of the way the screenplay has been written and the manner in which it was directed it wasn’t just the fans that were suffering a disservice but the actors too.

I’m a little torn though about the parts that were re-written or completely changed. On one hand I’m a firm believer in staying true to the original stories and how they were meant to be told. On the other hand, Twilight can be, quite often, a little bit dull. I think the way in which the screen interpretation has been altered made some things a little more clear, more easy to understand. What wasn’t necessary was the little punch/bite-fest outside the house after the birth of Renesmee (speaking of which, the scene about choosing names was probably one of the funniest in the movie, and even then it only earned a slight snort) there was a bit too much going on and it didn’t really achieve anything. But I suppose there had to be some action involved for the men folk that were dragged along.

My favourite part of the film (ignoring the wedding, that preference was fuelled by Oestrogen, a somewhat unreliable review source) has to be the final scene with the three Volturi leaders Aro, Marcus and Caius. I know they’re the bad guys, I understand that but Michael Sheen is without a doubt, the best literature to screen adaption in the saga. Finally, with the set up for the final movie, we get to really see just how evil the leader is. We also get to hear just how much Marcus sounds like an Ent, but that’s not really relevant. It kind of ruins the big moment in the book here the Cullen clan realise they’ve been sentenced to death but it’s a nice little hook to get the more wary viewers back in the cinema in a years time. Much more effective than the tacky close up as Bella opens her now red eyes.

Overall it’s not the best part of the series by any means. The first three movies got consistently better as they ent on so seeing this one felt a little like a step back. Admittedly Bill Condon had been working from an inconsistent method of directing so he can’t have been expected to do fantastic things, you’re foundations do have to be good to start with, but he could have handled it a little better. I did enjoy it and I will eagerly await the final part but as a fan I did, as forewarned, feel a bit let down. The unfortunate thing is that as both parts of Breaking Dawn were made together we can probably expect the same sort of style for part 2. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
